Kaden Honeycutt's second lap of the day was a 23.13. His 71st lap on that same set was a 26.26. That is more than three seconds of falloff, and it is why the field spent an hour running full stage lengths instead of hero laps.
Thirty nine trucks are here for 36 spots, the largest entry list since Daytona, so three of them go home this afternoon, and only the top 31 qualify on speed. Read the board below accordingly. The FASTEST column is a qualifying preview and mostly a lie about the race.
The 15, 20, 25 and 30 lap columns are the race. A truck with a mediocre single lap and a top five long window is set up for tonight; a truck with a hero lap and dashes everywhere else has not answered the only question Richmond asks. One more wrinkle for green flag stops: pit road entrance moved about 75 feet closer to pit lane this year, and the Cup regulars in the field were already practicing hot entries.
Nobody, and at Richmond that is its own headline. The only moment was Dystany Spurlock's Turn 4 spin, saved without contact. Elliott Sadler's troubles were mechanical, not sheet metal.

Van Gisbergen at +265 for a top five now leads the field to green after taking his first career Truck Series pole, and last year's top four finishers all started inside the top five. Chandler Smith's 35th on the practice pylon was a planned late run, exactly like we said, and he qualified 3rd. Majeski starts 7th with the two best short windows of practice and the concession of the fastest man in the field already banked.
Eckes starts 12th after practicing fast over 10 laps and thin past 15, so his leg still leans on pit timing. The one leg doing push-ups is Heim at +290: 16th on the grid at a track that pays track position, with a defending winner's resume as the rebuttal. Five legs posted blind, four confirmed by the day, one asked to earn it.

Majeski is the best truck, Honeycutt is the best prepared truck, Riggs is the fastest truck, and van Gisbergen is the truck on the pole, and at Richmond those are four different jobs. Tonight sorts them by who times the last stop right on a tire that gives up three seconds. The one certainty practice produced is negative: nobody at the top of the board is bluffing, because the guy with the biggest bluff available folded on camera and pointed at the 88.
