The data wrinkle that matters more is the tire. Goodyear is bringing the D-5276 left-side compound that debuted at Bristol in April 2026 to a one-mile concrete oval for the first time. The right-side D-5260 is the same tire that ran here in July 2025.
That single decision is the entire reason Bristol April 2026 is the most predictive race in the recent file — and it’s the angle the entire scouting card is built on. THE FORMAT 350 laps, three segments. Stage 1 runs 75 laps.
Stage 2 runs 75 laps with an inversion of the Stage 1 top-26 at the start. The Final runs 200 laps with only 26 cars on the grid. Saturday qualifying is the Mechanix Wear Pit Crew Challenge — a three-lap run with a mid-run pit stop.
Drivers go green for lap one, come down pit road at pit-road speed at the end of lap two for a four-tire stop (mock fueling, no actual fuel), then run lap three. The combined three-lap time sets the Stage 1 starting order. The pit-stop timing section sets the pit-crew champion AND pit stall selection for the entire event.
A crew penalty costs 10 seconds on both qualifying and the pit-stop comp. A driver penalty costs 10 seconds on qualifying only. The Final Stage lineup is set by combined finishing position across Stage 1 and Stage 2.
Add a driver’s Stage 1 finish to their Stage 2 finish — lowest total starts on the pole, second-lowest starts P2, and so on down to P26. Win both stages outright (1 + 1 = 2) and you’re on the pole. Finish 10th twice and you’re starting 10th-ish, depending on how the rest of the field finishes.
19 cars are already locked into the Final regardless of their stage results: race winners from 2025 and 2026, past All-Star winners still full-time, past Cup champions still full-time. They still have to race the first two stages for grid position — but they can’t be eliminated. 6 more spots go to the best combined finishes among the drivers not already locked in.

Combine their Bristol April data with their Dover July data. That’s Goodyear telling the field exactly what the comp is. The teams that ran well at Bristol three weeks ago and have a Dover July file from 2025 are the teams with the cleanest read on Sunday.
Bristol April 2026 is the most predictive race in this field’s recent history. Teams get eight sets of tires for the weekend — six stickers and two scuffs from qualifying. They must start every segment on stickers.
The final 200-lap segment runs on four sets, all stickers. NASCAR has built in a competition caution around lap 75 of the final segment, guaranteeing at least one strategic pit cycle in the middle of the longest run. The team that gets tire management right in the final stage is the team that wins the $1M.
