Every one of the sixteen needs a clean night at the toughest track on the calendar, and the win market has priced the drivers who tend to get one here.
Hamlin has five Darlington wins and an 8.0 average finish across 28 starts, the best active file at the track. Tyler Reddick won the spring race from the pole and has run the field's best average running position, 5.4, over the last five Darlington races. Briscoe is the defending Southern 500 winner and spent last year's race at a 1.76 average running position, which is barely a race at all.
None of those names has a price we want on the top 10 board. So we went underneath, where the loop data tells us exactly what a Darlington top 10 costs: laps in the top 15. Across the last three Cup races here, twenty of the thirty top-10 finishes came from cars that spent at least 70 percent of the day inside the top 15.
The March receipts are six months old, not six years, and they carry. Hamlin, Reddick and Briscoe have turned Darlington into a private club, the win board prices that accordingly, and so the only market with real numbers left is the one underneath, where laps in the top 15 get paid.
Jones is the anchor, the one price we can defend on this race alone, two Southern 500 trophies and a 3rd here a year ago against a season that has been trying to bury him. Chastain and Cindric are the run-quality plays, the 3rd-best and 7th-best cars in the last two Darlington races, priced like drivers the market has stopped watching. Preece and Suarez are the same bet in different firesuits: a recent file that says the car has a top-10 pulse, bought at the discount the older file created.
