Every driver the broadcast quoted or singled out, in one place. The qualifying board and the race-pace board barely overlap, and that gap is the whole bet. Larson, Zilisch, Hocevar and Heim threw down the fastest single laps on fresh tires — and all four gave back three to four-plus seconds over five laps.
The names that hold their pace are Van Gisbergen, Austin Hill and Michael McDowell , in that order, and SVG’s margin on race pace is enormous. Tire fall-off this severe turns a road race into an endurance test. Track position still matters, but the driver who can run a long green flag without cooking the rears wins the day — and nobody in the sport does that better than the favorite.
